What happened: Tulare County is one step closer to purchasing a former assisted living facility in Visalia after the supervisors approved a June 6 public hearing date to receive comments regarding the $5.6 million property purchase.

The property located at 347 E. Walnut Avenue is the former Casa Grande assisted living facility and will be used for a behavioral health supportive housing center to serve Tulare County residents experiencing mental health conditions.

Prior to discussion of this item, Supervisor Pete Vander Poel recused himself due to a financial conflict of interest and left the room. He said that he is the owner of a property management company, which manages properties for the owner of this property. The owners are listed as Joe Nunes Silveira and Maria Fatima Silveira in the staff report.

Up next: The Tulare County Board of Supervisors will meet again on May 16.
