1. Reflecting on another bumpy round of Measure P arts grants

On this week’s Fresnolandia podcast, Danielle and Jordan spoke with journalist Doug Hoagland of The Munro Review about the transparency and bias allegations raised by a coalition of local artists and community organizations in the most recent round of Measure P arts grants.
The city’s Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission officially approved $6.3 million in grants on Oct. 13 after several months of delays over concerns about process.
Hoagland described the tension between legacy arts organizations and emerging artists, a recurring theme that’s surfaced since the very beginnings of Measure P.

2. Fresno County supervisors to consider Malaga industrial rezone

County supervisors are discussing today whether to approve a new rezone of just over three acres of land zoned for agriculture to heavy industrial, just east of Malaga.
The site — at the northwest corner of Peach and North Avenues — is just outside of Fresno city limits. County leaders have agreed to the city’s request that the property develop with streets that meet city standards, according to the staff report.
In other county news, the supervisors are expected to approve an updated list of road projects they’ll tackle this next year using the state’s gas tax dollars, or SB1 funds, from early design and scoping to construction. Peek at the list to see if your neighborhood is on it.
3. Another child hit by car in southeast

A person driving a SUV hit a 12-year old girl riding her bike to school on Monday near Olive and Millbrook Avenues by Yosemite Middle School, reported ABC30.
The girl was taken to Community Regional Medical Center as a precaution but is expected to recover from bruising.
The incident is the latest in a string of incidents where cars have hit kids and adults walking or biking. 15-year old McLane High student Nathan Torres was killed by a person driving a car on Sept. 29 also on Olive Avenue, near Angus Avenue, while riding his bike.
Earlier this year, Fresno ranked as the 7th most dangerous city in America for pedestrians and bicyclists, according to data analyzed by Smart Growth America.
While the city has made strides in bike safety, there’s still many parts of the city that lack dedicated sidewalks and protected bike lanes.
