ā˜€ļø Good morning! It’s Thursday, June 27. This is Rob. Crews battling a string of lightning-strike fires in rural eastern Fresno County should see slightly better conditions today as the heat and wind back off a bit. Be sure to check out Fresnoland’s guide to protecting yourself and your family against wildfire smoke. Temperatures are expected to top out around 95 today, with winds peaking around 20 mph. The National Weather Service calls for temperatures to remain (just) below 100 degrees over the weekend.

šŸ“™The Woodward Park Fresno Public Library branch will be holding an LGBT Game Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. The event is open to all and will be held in the WDWD meeting room.

šŸ›ļø The Fresno City Council is expected to scrap a pandemic-era policy that allowed city residents to participate in council meetings online.

As reported Wednesday by Fresnoland’s Pablo Orihuela, the Council is scheduled to vote on ending the public’s ability to comment on issues before the council via Zoom. Meetings would still be streamed live online so residents could watch, but, to address the City Council, residents would be forced to make their way to City Hall.

At least some residents have already pushed back against the idea, noting that many struggle to attend in-person meetings and the online option encourages greater participation.

The City Council reached a similar conclusion in 2021 when they adopted the policy, specifically noting that ā€œthe Council desires to extend this option permanently, as it invites a greater degree of public participation.ā€

Permanently?

It will be interesting to see whether any city councilmember wants to have a public discussion about curtailing public discussion.

The City Council meets at 9 a.m. today at City Hall, 2600 Fresno St.
