What happened: The Fresno Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission met on Monday night to discuss draft updates and a timeline for the Cultural Arts Plan, which was released just prior to the meeting and is now open for public comments through June 5. The plan is available to view online in English, Spanish, Hmong, and Punjabi.

The Cultural Arts Plan will help determine how a portion of Measure P proceeds are spent on arts and culture in the city of Fresno. The three-eight cent sales tax was approved by 52% of voters in 2018 and will raise approximately $37.5 million per year for the next 30 years.

Due to the late release of the draft, no presentations were shared at the meeting
and few comments were made from the commissioners and public.

Public comments on the plan can be made in-person at the next commission meeting on May 30 at 5:30 p.m. Comments can also be made electronically through June 5 via email to PRAC@fresno.gov or on the survey here. Printed surveys are also available by emailing PRAC@fresno.gov or calling 559-621-7529.

Following the public comment period, an updated draft will be released in July before it is decided on by the Fresno City Council in August.

And also: Chair Kimberly McCoy and Commissioner Sarah Parkes announced the end of their terms. They thanked their colleagues and the community for trusting them to serve on the committee.
