The Fresno Planning Commission allowed a car wash to move forward despite concerns from neighboring businesses about noise and traffic.

May 3, 2023 — Fresno Planning Commission

Documented by Ntsaiab Vang

What happened: On Wednesday the Fresno Planning Commission voted 4-2 to deny an appeal of a drive-through car wash facility on E. McKinley and N. Fine avenues by neighboring businesses, including Rivendell Community, an adult care facility.

Commissioners David Criner and Chair Peter Vang voted against denying the appeal and in favor of the clients of the facility who expressed concerns about the impact the increased traffic and loud sounds from vacuums would have on its clients.

At the March 15 meeting, many Rivendell clients and nearby business owners, came to voice their opposition to the car wash. They gathered signatures of dozens of individuals also opposed to the project.

The facility’s operating hours will be from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Up next: The Fresno Planning Commission will meet again on May 17.
