Why it matters:

With the first cannabis shop opening in Fresno in July 2022, the city has been criticized for its slow rollout of cannabis business. Prior to opening, the shops must obtain conditional use permits by getting approval from the planning commission and city council.

What happened: At its Jan. 4, 2023 meeting, the Fresno Planning Commission moved forward the development of Stiiizy, a new cannabis shop on Willow and Herndon Avenues and plans for a gas station, convenience store, and quick service restaurant on Behymer and North Maple Avenues.

And also: The commissioners received a presentation on a proposed text amendment to the Cleaner and Green Overlay. The amendment is in response to feedback from the public that the language is unclear and confusing.

Up next: The next Fresno Planning Commission is scheduled for Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
