💰The Fresno City Attorney’s office was awarded $720,000 by the California Labor Commissioner to prosecute wage theft. This comes after a recent action by the City Council to allow the city attorney to use a new state law that allows local prosecutors to take on wage theft cases if the state labor commissioner doesn’t take them up within 30 days.
🎬 A downtown landmark is up for grabs: owners of the historic art deco Crest Theatre on Fresno and Broadway are asking a cool $13 million. From the listing:
“Originally part of a special chain of theaters built by Fox West Coast, the Crest Theatre had her Grand Opening Gala on July 7th 1949 attended by many old Hollywood greats – including Anne Davis, who was later known as the First Lady Nancy Reagan.
The Crest Theatre was then owned by actor, writer, director, producer, and comedian Mel Brooks and his wife, actress Anne Bancroft, until purchased in 1996 by visionary Gloria Leon.”
