🍪Good morning! It’s Monday, Aug. 4. This is Rob, wishing you a happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!

☀️ More mild weather today, but triple-digits are waiting for us in the tall grass: High of 93ish today.

🖼️ The Fresno Arts Museum will host an opening reception on Friday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. for their newest exhibitions. The event is free for members of the museum, and $20 for non-members.

🎺Listen Up: It’s the 124th birthday of American jazz legend Louis Armstrong. (Yes, other celebrities have birthdays today, too, but they’re not as cool as Satchmo.)

1. Know Your Rights

As the Trump administration continues its aggressive immigration crackdown on ordinary immigrant workers and families, Fresno residents gathered to help the deaf and hard of hearing residents prepare for encounters with masked and frequently unidentified federal agents.

The event was organized by Poder LatinX, The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Center along with support from state Sen. Anna M. Caballero.

Fresnoland’s Diego Vargas was on hand at the workshop and spoke with a mother who worries for son.

Fresno mother Maria Rubio: “It’s very, very difficult sometimes to have educational presentations that also educate deaf people. It makes me feel good knowing he knows his rights as a human being as it relates to everything going on and in case we are ever detained.”
