1. All four Fresno council candidates oppose major SEDA project

A massive and contentious development project took center stage Monday during a candidate’s forum for the Fresno City Council’s D1 district, which stretches from the center of the Tower District and continues west past the 99 freeway.
Fresnoland’s Julianna Morano attended the forum at the Teague Community Resource Center, along with more than three dozen community members, residents and voters.
In addition to the massive SEDA development — which all four candidates said they opposed — there were also minor clashes over which of the candidates was most representative or most-tied to the west Fresno neighborhoods they’re competing to represent.
Candidates are gearing up for the June 2 primary, when dozens of local seats are at stake in Fresno County.
2. Wontons vs Dumplings?

Fresnoland’s food editor Vince Mancini took a deep dive into the region’s trendiest new dumpling spots.
In a friendly food showdown between Jingle Bao vs. Dumpling U, Fresnoland unpacks the differences, similarities and specialities of some of the region’s most beloved appetizers.
“Dumplings generally and Chinese dumplings specifically seem to be having a bit of a moment,” Vince writes. “We tried to do our best to get a one-to-one comparison while also sampling a complete cross-section of signature dishes.”
3. ‘Really unfair’?

Starting next fall, Fresno State students won’t be able to move around campus on motorized scooter, bicycles or other mobile vehicles, YourCentralValley reports.
Citing safety concerns, university officials are urging students to use other transportation methods — mainly buses — to get around town.
Fresno State says they’ve seen an increase in serious accidents involving the electric-powered vehicles. Earlier this year, a 20-year-old student was hurt while riding his e-scooter near campus.
But with crippling food prices and souring gas and rent costs, students like Carlos Galicia tell YourCentralValley that the move is bad for young students.
Galicia: “I thought it was really unfair. I find it a huge inconvenience because it really takes a long time to get from the parking lot to class. I think instead of banning it, they should have just started fining people who don’t follow the rules.”
