☀️ Good morning! It’s Wednesday, Sept. 18. Fresno’s streak of cooler temperatures rumbles on today with an expected high of around 76! The National Weather Service in Hanford said rain could begin creeping into the Valley overnight, with rain showers “likely” on Thursday. Temperatures are expected to climb gradually over the weekend before Fresno’s regular hot weather returns to the upper 90s early next week — like an ex refusing to accept that this summer thing is over.
📽️The 40-year-old remastered documentary “Strangers in a Promised Land” will be screened on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Alice Peters Auditorium in the University Business Center at Fresno State. The film, restored from the original 16mm cut, chronicles the arrival of Armenian refugees in Fresno, the discrimination they overcame, and their rise to political, economic, and cultural prominence. The event begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by the screening at 7 p.m. and a panel discussion afterward.
🎓 Gisselle Medina, Fresnoland’s Religion and Culture reporter, is working on a story about Fresno Pacific University’s LGBTQ+ presence on campus and the university’s past decision to reject an official LGBTQ+ club. They are interested in speaking with a few LGBTQ+ students about their experiences at FPU and any challenges they’ve faced or continue to face, especially at a religious institution.
