⛅Good morning, Fresno! It’s Thursday, July 18. This is Rob. And yes, it kind of rained this morning in Fresno. But only kind of. National Weather Service Meteorologist Carlos Molina said that between roughly 7:45 and 8 a.m. “a few drops” of rain fell in and around Fresno. It wasn’t much (the Fresno Yosemite Airport didn’t report even a drop), but more rain is possible this afternoon, mainly in the mountains. Cloudy skies are cooling temperatures slightly, with an expected high today of around 100 degrees. A second major heatwave is headed for Fresno early next week, with an excessive heat warning planned between Monday and Thursday as temperatures climb over 105 for several days.
👮 A new report from The Fresno Bee shows outgoing police Chief Paco Balderrama had even bigger plans for reducing overtime expenses at the Fresno Police Department — but that was before his tenure as chief was derailed in the fallout over the chief’s affair with another officer’s wife. The Bee reported that overtime had already been cut basically in half from around $6 million to just over $3 million, and Balderrama claimed his new plan could be even more effective. It’s now unclear whether that plan, which The Bee reported was already unpopular with the rank-and-file officer, is still in the works as the department searches for a new leader.
