Clovis City Council
The Clovis City Council makes decisions on the scope, direction and financing of city services. It also establishes policy that is administered and implemented by city staff, as well as establishing land-use policies through the General Plan and zoning regulations.
Meetings usually occur on the first, second and third Mondays of each month at 6 p.m. Meetings take place at 1033 Fifth St. in Clovis and are also webcast via WebEx and YouTube.
At the Jan. 17 Clovis City Council meeting, members of three families whose homes were damaged by a city water-main break over a year ago appeared in person to plead with the council for a fair resolution to the displacement and loss of property they have experienced.
At the Jan. 9, 2023 Clovis City Council meeting, City Attorney Scott Cross provided an update on Senate Bill 1439, which prohibits city council members from participating in a proceeding involving a request from someone who has contributed in excess of $250 to a campaign.
The Clovis City Council approved a change from a 10- to a 17-day public-notice procedure for mailing public hearing notices to nearby residents about proposed real-estate development projects.
The council honored retiring council members Bob Whalen and Jose Flores, as well as Betsy Sandoval who is retiring after 38 years of service on the Clovis Unified School District Board.
After hearing concerns from several members of the public, the council moved forward studies on expanding the city’s sphere of influence northeast to include 923 acres for the Shepherd North development, as well as approved a $2 million budget increase for Landmark Square.
