What's at stake:

Population growth is a key factor that can impact local economy, education, the location of businesses and corporations and also where housing developers lay brick.

Every year since 2020, Fresno County’s population has grown according to estimates — and 2024 was no exception.

According to California’s Department of Finance, Fresno County’s population was estimated to be 1,019,566 in 2024. Compared to 1,017,152 residents the year prior, that’s an estimated growth of about 2,414 people.

From 2023 to 2024, California’s population grew by about 49,000 people, according to the state’s Department of Finance.

In 2023, Fresno County’s annual population growth was estimated at 5,503 people — the largest annual growth for the county so far this decade.

Since 2020, the county’s population has grown by about 12,467 people. That represents the second highest population growth among the eight San Joaquin Valley counties this decade — behind only San Joaquin County.

Fresno is still the largest county in the San Joaquin Valley by population — and the only one with a population north of a million people. Every single San Joaquin Valley county has grown its population since 2020, expect Stanislaus County.
