A retired Fresno County Superior Court Judge has been indicted with two sexual assault charges by a grand jury.

Adolfo Corona, 65, could face a maximum of eight years in state prison and would need to register as a sex offender, according to a press release by the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

“Corona was notified of the charges and arraigned this morning. He entered a not guilty plea,” stated the press release.

Corona was indicted on the following charges:

  • One count of sexual penetration by force, fear or duress
  • One count of sexual battery

The unsealing of the grand jury indictment occurred on Sep. 23 in front of Judge Joseph Kalashian of Tulare County. Corona waived the reading of the complaining document, formal arraignment and the reading of his constitutional rights, according to court documents.

Currently, the next court date is set for Nov. 14, where a settlement conference will take place. A tentative trial date of Jan. 5, 2025 has also been arranged. Judge Kalashian is currently assigned to both court dates.

According to the indictment, Corona allegedly committed the acts on March 14 of this year. Details about the acts allegedly committed have not been revealed.

Corona was appointed in 2003 by former Gov. Gray Davis. He won re-election in 2022 to remain a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court, but retired effective on April 30 of this year despite having five more years left in his term.

Judge Kalashian ordered Corona to post his $70,000 bail or turn himself in to the Fresno County Jail. At the time of this writing, Corona has yet to post his bail.
