Over the past few decades, Los Angeles has been re-making its car-centric image, building out a multi-billion dollar expansion of its subway, light rail, and bus systems.
Today, LA has the fourth-largest rail system in the country, surpassing Chicago and Boston. Bus ridership on the LA Metro is second in the US, only to New York City Metro’s buses.
About 10% of commuters take public transit to work in LA.
As Fresno debates the future of its own transit systems, with the possible renewal of Measure C, the county’s transportation sales tax, on the ballot in 2026 — what could we learn from Los Angeles as they try to become a more sustainable region?
Join us on Thursday, September 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tioga-Sequoia in downtown Fresno to hear from some of Los Angeles’ biggest leaders on transit:
- Antonio Villaraigosa, former Los Angeles Mayor, former Speaker, California State Assembly, former California Infrastructure Advisor to Gov. Gavin Newsom, and current California gubernatorial candidate
- Denny Zane, former Santa Monica Mayor/Councilmember and founder, Move LA
- Tyler Maxwell, Fresno City Councilmember
Tickets are $5 each, but free for Fresnoland members (check your inbox for a special code).
