Fresno City Councilmember Garry Bredefeld’s lead shrunk by 417 votes on Tuesday, but remained comfortably in the driver’s seat over incumbent Steve Brandau in the district 2 Fresno County Board of Supervisors race.

The most recent voter totals released late Tuesday by the Fresno County Clerk’s Office included an estimated additional 50,250 ballots counted since the last update on Nov. 7. There were still about 49,200 ballots left to be counted as of Tuesday.

Brandau gained 4,806 votes, shrinking the deficit by about 3 percentage points. He still trailed Bredefeld by about 5,900 votes.

The most recent results show a continued trend of weak performances by incumbent Fresno County officials.

The next updated vote count from the Clerk’s Office is expected Friday.

Brandau was not immediately available for comment following the most recent voter update, but in a message to Fresnoland confirmed congratulating Bredefeld without conceding the race.

Bredefeld told Fresnoland on Tuesday that he was not ready to claim victory, but remained “grateful” by the district’s show of support toward his candidacy.

“It has been very gratifying to have so many people support your campaign and support the fact that you want to bring real change, transparency and accountability to the Board of Supervisors,” Bredefeld said.“I’m grateful for that support, and I intend to follow through on what I said I’m going to do.”
