The Fresno Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission discussed upcoming community meetings regarding new sport courts and a new commissioner joined.
At a meeting of the Fresno Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission on Monday, Jan. 22, dates were announced for two upcoming meetings regarding the final design of new sports courts at two Fresno parks.
The first, regarding futsal and pickleball courts at Vinland Park, is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at the park, 4695 East Gettysburg Ave. Futsal is a football-based sport played on a hard court, mostly inside.
According to the Fresno Parks and Recreation (PARCS) Facebook page announcement: “This is your chance to be a part of the design unveilings, engaging presentations, and most importantly, have your voice heard regarding the upgraded pickleball and futsal courts. Your feedback is crucial as we strive to give our favorite courts a fresh new look.”
The second community meeting will be held on Feb. 6 regarding the Roeding Park pickleball and multiuse courts at 5:30 p.m. at Muir Elementary School, 410 East Dennett Ave. At the meeting, the initial design concept will be presented by city staff. The PARCS Facebook announcement encourages interested residents to attend, saying “your input is essential, and the city of Fresno is excited to hear your valuable thoughts.”
Another community meeting, not mentioned by PARCS staff Monday, is to be held regarding the design of pickleball courts at Woodward Park on Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Valley Oak Elementary School, 465 E. Champlain Drive.
New Commissioner joins
A new member of the commission, Christina Soto, was seated and introduced. Soto, who lives in west Fresno, told the commission that she had actively campaigned for Measure P, which is designed to “ensure Fresno’s neighborhoods receive funding to improve and maintain our parks and facilities, create new parks and trails, and fund recreation, community, and arts programs,” according to the city.
“I’m excited to be connected to the community and help bring the vision of Measure P as it was intended to serve the community,” Soto said at the meeting. She said she has four sons who are involved in sports.
The next meeting of the Fresno Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission is slated for Feb. 19.
