What happpened: The City of Fresno’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met on Wednesday and discussed a sharp increase in pedestrian-involved collisions, which they said could be weather-related.

According to the Fresno Police Department’s statistics, there were 50 pedestrian-involved collisions from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2023 compared to 24 during the same time period in 2022.

Collisions involving bicycles declined from 11 to nine during the same time period.


And also: Committee members urged scooter and bike riders to wear helmets. Stricter enforcement of safety practices was discussed.

The members are seeking outreach opportunities to distribute helmets for local residents.

Up next: The committee is scheduled to meet again on April 26.
