Feb. 7, 2023 — Tulare County Board of Supervisors

Documented by Dani Huerta

Chief Deputy District Attorney Daniel Underwood gave a presentation on the department’s need for additional positions Feb. 7 at the Tulare County Board of Supervisors meeting.

What happened: At its Feb. 7 meeting, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors approved a request to add 11 positions to the district attorney’s office.

The additional positions include two chief deputy district attorney positions, eight assistant district attorney positions and one field evidence technician. The department will also remove three positions: a media specialist, legal office assistant, and a victim witness worker.

According to the agenda packet, the additional positions will cost the department approximately $764,000 for the remainder of this fiscal year, which will be covered through departmental savings.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Daniel Underwood presented information on the requested changes to the board.

Supervisor Pete Vander Poel III asked what challenges they are facing. Underwood said they are in “unprecedented times with staff shortages.”

Up next: There are no Tulare County Board of Supervisors meetings for the next two weeks. The next meeting will be Feb. 28, 2023.
