☀️ Good morning! It’s Tuesday, July 2. This is Rob. Fresno’s first brutal heat wave crash-lands today, with temperatures reaching 106. And it will only get hotter as the week goes on. The National Weather Service’s “excessive heat warning” goes into effect at 11 a.m. today and is expected to last one full week, tentatively scheduled to end July 9. Forecasters expect temperatures to climb to around 109 on Wednesday. And Thursday. And Friday. Saturday could be the hottest day yet, with the heat reaching around 112 degrees. Fresno’s heat record for July — set in 1905 — is 115, and meteorologists say we aren’t likely to break that record.
🧑🚒Firefighters battling the Fresno Lightning Complex Fires reported the blaze was more than 80% contained early Tuesday. The fires sparked during a lightning storm on June 24 and have since consumed more than 10,600 acres in remote parts of eastern Fresno County. Meanwhile, the Basin Fire burning northeast of Fresno has consumed more than 13,000 acres since June 26. It was 17% contained as of Tuesday morning.
🏛️ The Fresno Historical Society is presenting the exhibit “From China to Fresno: A 150-Year Cultural Journey Exhibit” at the Kearney Mansion Museum until Nov. 10, every Friday through Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit contains artifacts that have been in the Fresno County Historical Society Archive for over five decades.
