Q: Is Sam’s Deli moving to a different location? Are they closing the original location at Clinton Avenue and First Street?

A: Yes, to the first question, no to the second.

Sam’s Italian Deli & Market plans to open a second location next summer at the Villagio Shopping Center at Blackstone and Nees avenues, across from River Park in north Fresno.

However, manager Lori McGrath confirmed that there are no plans to close the store’s first and original location at First and Clinton.

The Villagio Shopping Center location still needs some serious remodeling, McGrath told Fresnoland. The company has already signed the lease, though, and will have access to the building beginning in January.

Sam’s Italian Deli & Market, known to many simply as “Sam’s Deli”, opened in 1980, and is owned by Nick Marziliano.

News of the move was first reported by the Fresno Business Journal in February. The deli plans to occupy three spaces at the Villagio location, including the space currently occupied by Sierra Nut House, a move that apparently caught the owner of the Sierra Nut House off guard, The Fresno Bee reported.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly spelled the last name of the owner of Sam’s Deli and incorrectly identified the news outlet that first broke the story. The article has been corrected.
